This is a story about life choices. It is also a story about the impact that those life choices we make have on our children and their identity.
Kaya is a 12 year old girl, half Israeli and half Nepali who was taken for a round the world trip with her family and ended up living in Goa, India for 7 years.
18 year old Kaya and her family lived in Goa, India for seven years. 2 years after the family returned to their home town of Tel Aviv, Kaya and her mother, Tal, take a trip to Goa in order to release the house they lived in, sell their stuff, and send Kaya to Nepal to visit her biological father whom she rarely sees. The trip back to Goa, raises tension and old issues from the years they lived in India, and forces them both to dig into the past.
When Kaya was 12, as a home schooler, she took up boxing at the “Tiger” boxing club in the fishermen village of Chapora. The club was run by an Italian boxer named Fabrizio who became a mentor to the local teenagers, western as well as Indian. At the club Kaya meets Sonya, a local boxer who is five years her senior and a head shorter. In the eye of Tal’s camera, Sonya and Kaya become friends and rivals during 5 years , until they each go their separate ways.
The film intertwines between Kaya’s boxing years and the present visit to India, and those two time layers unfold the story of a mother and daughter relationship, as a consequences of Tal’s life choices and their effect on Kaya’s identity.
